Delray Beach, Florida Christmas Tree Lighting … Delray Beach Florida is the home of the 100 foot tall Christmas tree. The tree is located in Old School Square and is lit in the month of December. This year 2012, marks the 22nd anniversary of the tree.
The tree is actually a large circular section of steel that takes a month to put up by over 100 volunteers. It has 30,000 ornaments hung on 3,000 tree branches. Nearly 30,000 pounds of metal framing and 650 steel panels support the 10,000 pounds of foliage plus more than 15,000 LED lights and decorations, one big tree. You can actually go inside the tree for a small donation and take pictures looking up into the framework. The tree lighting includes of course Santa for all the kids, plenty of music, food vendors and an ice-skating rink, which is pretty unique in South Florida. This is one of our favorite events to do during the holiday season. And don’t forget to take a ride on the a real old-fashioned holiday carousel.
